CCI’s Entertainment Production division is a great way to deliver the message using oral tradition of the Caribbean with an entertaining impact. Our feature production is the Caribbeana Comedy Festival that brings top notch artists from the Caribbean.
Caribbeana Comedy Festival
Started 1988, our Comedy Festival not long after the inception of the local DC Caribbean Carnival, on the historical campus of Howard University. The concept originated with a Trinidadian colleague of Von, Paul Keens Douglas, a former producer of Talk Tents Comedy Festivals in Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies. Pitching the concept and opportunity to CCI to provide Caribbean culture to the Washington Metropolitan area, Douglas began orchestrating this oral tradition as a testament to Von’s cultural roots beyond the island borders of the Caribbean.
Since the festival’s inception, it has been funded through person in-house donations from CCI staff and community support through sales of its program magazine and ticket sales. Because WPFW FM is only volunteer-based, the Caribbean Comedy Festival is the only source of CCI’s independent fundraising.
